Questions

The questions people ask about GoodStanding, answered in full, read out of this product's own register.

What is GoodStanding?

GoodStanding is a document-preparation service for nonprofits that lost their 501(c)(3) to an IRS auto-revocation. We pull your record from the government registries, prepare every filing that cures it, and hand you a dated checklist. We are not a law or CPA firm and do not represent you before the IRS — we prepare, you sign and file.

Why did our donation pages go dark?

Under California’s AB 488, fundraising platforms may solicit or distribute donations only for charities in good standing. The Attorney General updates its downloadable May Not Operate or Solicit list on the first and third Wednesday of each month, while its Registry Search Tool reports real-time status and controls if the two differ. A platform’s timing for restoring donation pages is set by that platform.

What is the 15-month deadline?

File within 15 months of your revocation letter or list posting and the IRS can reinstate you retroactively — as if the revocation never happened. After 15 months, retroactive reinstatement is still available, but the IRS asks you to establish reasonable cause for failing to file in all three consecutive years rather than in just one, and Form 1023-EZ is no longer one of the forms listed for that route. Your exact date is on your free diagnostic.

Streamlined or Full — which do we need?

Streamlined ($79) fits most small nonprofits: first revocation, inside the 15-month window, and eligible for Form 1023-EZ. The IRS eligibility worksheet gates 1023-EZ on two numbers, not one — annual gross receipts of $50,000 or less, and total assets with a fair market value of $250,000 or less. An organization under $50,000 in receipts but over $250,000 in assets fails the second gate and has to file the full Form 1023, which is the Full pack ($199). The Full pack also carries the human-drafted reasonable-cause statement. The free diagnostic tells you which one you are.

What do you prepare, and what do we sign?

We prepare the Form 1023-EZ package, the California RRF-1 and CT-TR-1 filings with late fees computed, a mail-ready cover letter, and a dated checklist. You review, sign, and file — government fees (like the IRS’s $275) pass through at cost.

How long does reinstatement take?

Your pack lands within 3 business days of your intake answers. The IRS issues 80% of Form 1023-EZ determinations within 22 days, and 120 days for applications requiring further review. California updates its downloadable May Not Operate or Solicit list on the first and third Wednesday of each month, but its Registry Search Tool reports real-time status and controls if the two differ. Each fundraising platform sets its own timing for restoring donation pages.

Every answer above is already published on GoodStanding itself, at https://goodstanding.thecompound.tech/. Nothing on this page is written for it: the answers are read out of this product's own question register by a script, and a build gate re-runs that script and fails the deploy if a word here has drifted from it. The register was last re-checked against its sources on 7 August 2026.
